Diocese of Wellington elects new Assistant Bishop

Archbishop Don Tamihere and Archbishop Sione Uluilakepa have announced that the Reverend Anashuya Fletcher has been elected as Assistant Bishop for the Diocese of Wellington. You can read details of the appointment in Anglican Taonga here and on the Diocese of Wellington’s website here.

Lent Resources from the Disability Ministry Educators

Rēneti/Lent is upon us and the Disability Ministry Educators are inviting people to reflect on the reality of living in our bodies as God’s creation. The main theme is “How to live more fully as God’s creation.”

Impairment/disability is often seen as wholly negative. However, living with limitation is part of being human. Experiencing our limitations can lead us into life on a deeper level. Sharing these experiences can help us all become aware as to how limitations/impairment are gifts to our communities.

It is hoped that these posters may encourage kōrero/discussion/talanoa around how do we regard our bodies as part of God’s good creation.

For more information contact The Rev’d Vicki Terrell or Cherryl Thompson. They are available to come and meet with groups.

In this package there are posters for Ash Wednesday, Lent 1, Lent 2, and Lent 3. Resources for the rest of Lent and Easter will follow in a couple of weeks. All posters, and posters on other topics, are on the website Disability Ministry Resources — Social Justice Unit.

Bishop Ross and the Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, Bishop Michael Gielen, have been in Rome and Canterbury taking part in the International Anglican-Roman Catholic Commission on Unity and Mission’s ecumenical summit “Growing Together”.

St John’s College Scholarships

Twice a year the St John’s College Trust Board (SJCTB) invites Anglicans to apply for study scholarships for theological education. The deadline for the first round is 31 March 2024.

New Scholarships
All applications require a letter of endorsement or a development plan (for multi-year study) from the diocese. Please contact The Rev’d Sarah Moss (clergy scholarships) and Karen Spoelstra (lay scholarships) by 15 March 2024 to discuss this requirement.

Continuing scholarships
If you have been awarded a multi-year scholarship, please note that that you must apply annually for its continuation.

Disability Ministry Resources – International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Sunday 3 December 2023 was the International Day of People with Disabilities and the national Disability Ministry Educators have produced some resources. These include including posters about physical mobility, and the Aotearoa New Zealand disability strategy, as well as an access assessment form to help your ministry unit or community provide more inclusive services or programmes. The first edition of the disability ministry educators’ newsletter has also been published. Click here to find all resources and to find out how to sign up to the newsletter.

Diocesan Ministry Hubs – 2024 dates out now

The quarterly diocesan Ministry Hubs are designed to offer training and a strong peer community for lay leaders in the diocese. Hubs start with kai and worship at 1pm before participants choose one of the 2-3 workshops offered. In 2024, workshops will be offered in the areas of pastoral care, children and families, youth and ‘Relevant Outreach and Proclaiming the Gospel’. Hubs meet on Sunday afternoons from 1-4pm, in a range of churches around the diocese. More details to come in the new year. The 2024 dates are:

Sunday 19 May 2024
Sunday 4 August 2024
Sunday 20 October 2024.
