Launch of Greater Glengormley Churches Community Forum.
Following a series of focus groups between March-June, discussing 'Bridge Building for a Better Newtownabbey', a group of representatives of local churches, supported by Glengormley Clergy Fellowship, decided to establish the a Forum, led by lay church members in the Greater Glengormley area.
The purpose of the Forum is to build bridges for a more inclusive, cohesive and peaceful community in the Greater Glengormley area.
During July and August 2011 a representative Steering Group has been developing a strategy and action plan, to be presented at the launch.
The aims of the Forum are:
1) To build contact, relationships and understanding between local churches.
2) To work together to identify and address wider community needs.
3) To develop participative activities to bring the whole community together.
4) To develop links and communication between churches and the Council and other groups/organisations on community issues.
Representatives of all local churches attended the launch.
There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved young and old throughout the coming months. Check back for information and news.
The minutes, strategy and action plan are also available on the website here.
The next full meeting of the Forum will be in January. In the meantime the Steering Group and the Community Initiatives Working Group will be meeting next in October to work on the Directory, the Christmas Event and ideas for the Community Initiative.
